“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain. “
You can choose to see the negative in the rain OR …. remember to catch all the cool parts about it! I have lived in the ‘Seattle’ area for about 5 years now and everyone asks me, “does it really rain all the time”. Well… the answer to that is… yes it rains all the time in the winter. Just like it snows all the time in other places, or is hot all the time in the south during summer. We all have to deal with something not quite pleasant where we live.
But for me, I know what a wonderful spring and summer the rain yields so I find it awesome and inspiring. I have decided to look at the rain as mamma nature’s way of giving the planet a bath before she puts make up on it for the big summer dance.
And NO it doesn’t rain ALL the time. I have started to find the rhythm in the rain… and it helps that we are living 4 stories above ground right now, so I can see the sky when it’s about to give us a break. It seems to be always between 11am and 1pm when mamma nature will let up for about an hour and give me the break I need for at least a 2 to 3 mile walk/hike around the neighborhood during my lunch break. If your lucky you can even catch a ray of sunshine, that is my favorite thing to try and find after a rain.. when you catch a ray… MAN… that is the closest thing to heaven I think I can feel here on earth.
Winter time walking is almost one of my favorite things. Here is what you can find after a rain.
- Pay attention to the intensely green moss – after a rain the colors are almost neon!
- Try and find faces, animals and all kinds of things in the shape moss has taken on the trees, on the ground and just everywhere. This is my favorite form of meditation, it is fun and causes you to stop thinking and find the fun in the moss.
- Catch that ray of sunshine thru the trees! It’s magical. If you see the sun is about to come out, take to the trails and the trees!
- Walking inside a fog is actually so cool and creepy all at the same time! I love it!
- Capture pictures using your iPhone! After a rain lends its self to pretty amazing photos, the colors are more intense and vibrant on things like moss, leafs, bridges etc.,
- If it does start to rain hard on your head… oh well, go inside and edit your photos!
A little about Moss!
First of all moss is the coolest damn thing! It is mamma nature’s carpet, but even cooler than that… MOSS IS ALIVE! Moss consists of colonies of miniature plants that all grow together and depend on one another. Moss is actually one of the oldest plants dating back over 450 Million Years! It is estimated there are over 20,000 different kinds of moss! Talk about diversity! Learn more about moss here – https://www.mountainmoss.com/pages/what-is-moss
